The history of our mountain inn

When will it finally rain?

This question was asked almost in vain in 1976, so dry was that year. It is a long time ago and we had often had dry summers, but none like that one. The field work barely produced any hay, and we were forced to drive our cattle to the mountain pasture where they could eat what little, sparse grasses and alpine flowers there were.

That was exactly here, where you, dear guests, are sitting now. In those days, a few hikers would come past the barn at the end of the valley every now and then and ask for a glass of fresh hay-fed milk. And that is where the field name “Halsl” comes from. In the South Tyrolean dialect it means, more or less, “narrow neck”, “narrowing” or “valley end” and it is from there that we took the lovely and unmistakable name “Halslhütte”. How long ago is that now? A very long time. In the meantime, the next generation is already hard at work helping us at the Halslhütte, and in both the kitchen and the bar lots of new things are being created and tried out.

Martin and Edith and all the Halsl team look forward to welcoming you and your loved ones.
